Studies on Solid-liquid Suspensions Flow by Ultrasounds

چکیده
This work aimed to contribute to the modelling of slurry flows in horizontal pipes supported by experimental data gathered in a well instruments pilot rig. An ultrasonic sensor system was inserted in the pipe in order to calculate the slurry velocity profiles using a time domain correlation method. Effects of particles concentrations and slurry flow rates were investigated. A comparison of the mean velocities obtained from an electromagnetic flow meter and from the ultrasonic instrumentation was made. Deviations from the expected velocity profiles were explained on the basis of physical construction of the ultrasonic sensors insertion system.

Influence of shear stress applied during flow stoppage and rest period on the mechanical properties of thixotropic suspensions.
We study the solid mechanical properties of several thixotropic suspensions as a function of the shear stress history applied during their flow stoppage and their aging in their solid state. We show that their elastic modulus and yield stress depend strongly on the shear stress applied during their solid-liquid transition (i.e., during flow stoppage) while applying the same stress only before o...

متن کاملNumerical Investigation of the Influence of Sand Particle Concentration on Long Radius Elbow Erosion for Liquid-Solid Flow
Erosion caused by sand transportation in flow changing devices is a serious concern in the hydrocarbon and mineral processing industry, which entail to failure and malfunction of flow devices. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with discrete phase models (DPM) were employed for analysis of carbon steel long radius 90-Degree elbow erosion due to the sand concentration of 2, 5 and ...

The rheology of NFC suspensions that exhibited different microstructures and colloidal stability, namely TEMPO and enzymatic NFC suspensions, was investigated at the macro and mesoscales using a transparent Couette rheometer combined with optical observations and ultrasonic speckle velocimetry (USV). Both NFC suspensions showed a complex rheology, which was typical of yield stress, non-linear a...
متن کاملLiquid-gas-solid flows with lattice Boltzmann: Simulation of floating bodies
This paper presents a model for the simulation of liquid-gas-solid flows by means of the lattice Boltzmann method. The approach is built upon previous works for the simulation of liquid-solid particle suspensions on the one hand, and on a liquid-gas free surface model on the other. We show how the two approaches can be unified by a novel set of dynamic cell conversion rules. For evaluation, we ...
